Safety only Inspection: $ 14.50

Safety and Emissions Inspection: $ 39.75

Diesel engine vehicles and vehicles 25 years and older require a Safety inspection only.

All others require a Safety and Emissions inspection.  In Harris County every inspection station is the same price.  If a station tries to charge a different price then they can be reported to the Texas Department of Public Safety. (other counties may vary).

Lmc Complete Automotive can inspect vehicles that are 1996 year model and newer.

1995 year model vehicles and older that require a safety and emissions inspection must have the vehicle tested at a full service center that has a dynometer to test the emissions output.  

The difference is the 1996 a newer vehicles have what is called an "OBD II " on board computer which monitors the emissions output on its own.  The 1995 and older cars and trucks have an " OBD I " on board computer that does not monitor the emissions output to the degree necessary.
